Swisscash and Its Like

One of the first things I encountered in my workplace was Swisscash. Someone tentatively broached the subject. I immediately pontificated on the evils of pyramid schemes. Such an approach normally stops any chance of attempts to persuade. :) Yeahh, evil me. However I noticed that a friend of mine was itching to invest. I sat down and told her about such schemes. I mean, you put money in something.. you have to get something concrete in return. Whether it's a pie, a share certificate or a brick. This Swisscash thing (and now I hear of IPC?) doesn't offer anything concrete. Just cash into an account and miraculously it will breed and grow and do better than Berkshire Hathaway. Or Fidelity Magellan. Isn't the top in earnings George Soros's company? Whatever lah. But that friend of mine is still straining to invest. The only thing stopping her from dumping her money in is some cockup she's in, thanks to a crooked lawyer. But once that's straightened out,

Debates

Sort of 'forced' my school teachers to put together a debate team (students!) for the interschool debate competition. I knew forcing was required because looking after a debate team is just a lot of hard work. But the fun to be had, the experience to be got... all so priceless. I remember my times in La Salle... those night hours spent in the school with the boys... the cakes sent over regularly by Pn Goh n others...and that was with the kids. The times with the teachers were just as good. But being involved in debating as a coach is just so taxing. I don't know if I have enough brain cell juice left after nine years. I suppose if I had to, I would. But now it's time for others to go through the process I went through. I'm deliberately keeping away so the others will pick up the baton. Although it doesn't stop 'em from calling me about points and lines of argument. But those were good times, weren't they?
